Kingstone & Thruxton Primary School

Year 3

Welcome to Year 3!

There are 22 hard working and inquisitive children in Year 3 who are taught by Mrs Gemmell and are lucky enough to be supported by Mrs Caldicutt and Miss Brain

Learning Challenge

This half term, our learning challenges are ‘Who First Lived in Britain?" and "How did that blossom become and apple?'

During this half term Year 3 will be doing P.E on a Wednesday afternoon. They will be learning rules and skills in order to play team games, they will also be learning new playground games to play at breaktime. Could you please make sure kits are available each week. Please can I remind you that children should wear black shorts/joggers, pumps and a white t-shirt.

Children will collect housepoints for regular reading. They should try to read as much as they can at home, this is monitored on a daily basis. It doesn't need to be for long but every little bit helps, so it would be great if you could continue to encourage this. Reading is such a valuable tool for improving their imagination, spelling and writing skills.

Year 3 have  graffiti books to help practise the spellings of the week, they can be taken home each night and brought back each day. Every Monday, children will receive a list of new spellings that they need to learn for the following Monday , they are then free to graffiti these words in whatever way they like using pens/pencils or crayons. Children will highlight the spellings they got correct  each week so you can see how they are getting on.
Forest School
Year 3 will spend Tuesdays in Forest School exploring, creating, imagining, foraging, using tools, cooking in the outdoors, taking risks and learning new skills.

As always please do not hesitate to pop in at any time, book an appointment via the office or email me to discuss any concerns or questions you might have.

Here's to a great half term!
