Kingstone & Thruxton Primary School

Year 3

Welcome to Year 3!

There are 23 hard working and inquisitive children in Year 3 who are taught by Miss Gillespie. We are lucky enough to be supported by Mrs Walker and Miss Exley. We have also taken on an important responsibility of looking after 'Speedy' the tortoise, and already we are proving how grown up we are!

Learning Challenge

This half term, our learning challenge is ‘Dig Deep’ which gives us plenty of opportunity to have some fun, interactive and hands-on learning! We will be exploring volcanoes, rocks, soil and everything in between. We are most looking forward to making our volcanoes and creating a scientific eruption!

P.E/Forest School

During this term, half of the class will be taking part in Forest School whilst the other half will be doing P.E with Miss Brain. The children will get the opportunity to do both as they will swap after the half term. P.E kits still need to be in school at all times for all children as we will be doing P.E as a whole class on Thursday afternoons.

Children have already been given a new reading record, these need to be in school every day. Children are already showing such enthusiasm towards our class reading scheme ‘Readopoly’. Children get the opportunity to move along the ‘Readopoly’ board and win various prizes/rewards as they go when they read frequently at home. Children should try to read as much as they can at home and this will be monitored on a weekly basis. It doesn’t need to be for long but every little bit helps, so it would be great if you could encourage this. Reading is such a valuable tool for improving their imagination, spelling and writing skills. ‘Let's get reading!’

Children have been introduced to the exciting KS2 way of spellings. Each child has a graffiti book which will go home with them each night and need to be in school every day. These books are a fun way for children to learn their new spellings each week. Every Friday they will receive a list of new spellings that they need to learn for the following Friday, they are then free to graffiti these words in whatever way they like using pens/pencils or crayons. Children will write their spelling score (in a bubble) in their book each week so you can see how they are getting on.

As always please do not hesitate to pop in at any time, book an appointment via the office or email me to discuss any concerns or questions you might have.

Here's to the fun-filled year ahead!
