Hello and Welcome to Year 4
In Year 4 there are 27children. We are taught by Mrs Drinkwater (Class teacher) and our teaching assistants are Miss Brain, Miss Ross and Mrs Morgan.
We have a lovely bright classroom where we can display the current topics we are learning. Please see our topic overview for cross-curricular links with our Big Questions.
The day is divided up into several short lessons to keep the pupils motivated. Maths and English are in the morning, with Topic, Science, Music, Languages, Computing and P.E. lessons in the afternoon.
P.E. is taught by Mrs Jones from the High School on a Friday. Children need to have their PE kit in school every day as we will take advantage of the nice weather and carry out topic activities outside. We daily jog around the playground to ‘Run-a-Mile.’ We have daily handwriting exercises, along with ‘Wake and Shake’ to also keep us alert through the day.
Learning at Home
Each half term we send home a choice of activities linked with the current topic which children can share with their families. Everyone has a school reading book and journal. It is very important that children are listened to on a daily basis; comments from the listener should be recorded in the child's journal, signed and dated. Additional English and Maths games and activities can be completed on-line at Education City weekly.
Spellings – Each week pupils are given 10 of the National Curriculum statutory spellings to learn. Two spellings are taught in school every day and children are provided with yellow ‘graffiti’ books to write them in colours, in their own designs. These books can be taken home to learn but should be in school every day too.
